Influence of surfactants on the electrospinnability of lignin-PVP solutions and subsequent oil structuring properties of nanofiber mats

Abstract This work focuses on the improvement of electrospinnability low-sulfonate lignin (LSL)/polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) solutions by addition surfactants (SDS, CTAB and Tween-20) as well ability resulting nanofibers to structure castor oil. Solutions with two LSL/PVP weight ratios (70:30 90:10) in DMF were prepared adding variable surfactant concentrations (0–1 wt.%), physicochemically characterized. Electrical conductivity, surface tension rheological measurements performed. Variations these physicochemical properties explained basis surfactant-polymer interactions. The improves electrospinnability, producing more compact uniform fiber mats 70:30 systems, generally reducing average diameter number beads. In contrast, nanofiber not obtained 90:10 solutions, but different nanostructures composed particle clusters. Dispersions electrospinning from oil able generate physically stable strong oleogels. general, linear viscoelastic functions oleogels increased concentration. addition, exhibited excellent lubrication performance a tribological contact, extremely low values friction coefficient wear diameters, which may lead potential applications lubricants.
